CID Entertainment

CID is a 46 year old, family owned, brazilian record company. From it's foundation in 1958 until today many important changes has happened in the company and in the music market.

The only thing that has not changed is our committment to offer high quality music no matter what the style* is. This is why we have a diversied catalogue of cd's. Our catalogue of local artists includes names as popular in Brazil as:  (samba artists): Bezerra da Silva, Moreira da Silva, Dicró, Grupo Raça... (bossa nova artists) as: Roberto Menescal, Wanda Sá, Claudia Telles, Quarteto em Cy, Nana Caymmi, Emilio Santiago, Leny Andrade - (orquestras and musicians) as: Baden Powell, Orquestra Tabajara, Luiz Avellar and many many more.

We are also proud to say that no other company has been acting for so long in a market dominated by superpowerful companies such as: Sony, Emi, Warner, Universal, Bmg

Being a small and budget company has made all of us (producers, salesmen, desginers..) very criative in everything we do.

It was CID in the 70's that has the idea and the courage to sell Lp's at supermarkets. At that time long plays were only sold in record stores. CID opened this market by introducing displays and "inventing" promotional acts at the supermarkets. (example:  3 cassetes shrinked together at a low price / posters and brochures distributed in the supermarkets). It's also important to say that at that time there wasn't a proper place to expose Lp's so we developed a "display" that would be between any isle of the supermarket (among other products like food, etc).

Today we (and all companies) have in the "supermarkets and department stores" our most important clients. But when it all started no one could imagine to buy a long play while shopping at a supermarket.

Amoung our criative ideas of products we want to point out a 1995 release called "Os 3 Malandros".

This was a parody of the international hit "3 Tenors".  It's hard to describe the portugues word "Malandro". It's even tougher to try and explain it's meaning in english.

Well, "malandro" is a typical "brazilian" figure. Specially in Rio de Janerio. It suggest a way of life.

What we did was put together 3 important samba artists - dress them in "tuxedos" and take a picture in front ot an important theatre in Rio. It was a sucess.

In a very competitive market as ours one really has to be criative in developing new products and finding new ways of selling and promoting them. This is why in our catalogue we have produtct as:

- hymnes of the soccer clubs

- national anthems of many countries

- brazilian actors and actress telling stories for infant and toddlers

We sell our high quality cd's at prices that are lower than similar products released by our competitors.  The decision of being a budget label was strategical from the beginning.  We have conquered a place of prominence in the Brazilian musical market acting with seriousness and creativity. The secret of our sucess can be summarized in 2 aspects: low prices and high quality music.

* We are dedicated to many diferent music stlyes but mostly:

1 - Brazilian Music:  bossa nova, samba, forró, instrumental, popular, traditional

2 - Instrumental music: sax, piano, panflute, orchestras, trios

3 - Children:  stories, music, lullabies

4 - Special:  christmas, carnival, soccer

5 -  International:  italian, french and american standards - reggae - jazz - classical music
